DESCRIPTION:What is Mental Health First Aid?\nMHFA is an interactive course that gives people the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy and helps the public identify\, understand and respond to signs of mental illness. Participants are introduced to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems\, gain and understanding of their impact and explore common interventions and treatments. \nWho should attend Mental Health First Aid:\nMHFA is intended for all people and organizations that make up the fabric of a community and can benefit anyone interested in learning more about mental health problems\, including depression\, anxiety\, psychosis and substance use. \nFormat:\nParticipants must complete 2 hours of pre-work using a computer with an internet connection prior to the live session. ASIST is a resource for the whole community. It helps people apply suicide first-aid in many settings: with family\, friends\, co-workers\, teammates and formal caregiving roles. \nExperience powerful videos on suicide intervention. Feel challenged and safe. Learn suicide first aid. \nWhat you will learn \n\nHow to help someone thinking about suicide develop a personalized SafePlan to keep safe for now and connect with further help\nHow to apply a Safety Framework to guide the development of this SafePlan through a collaborative helping relationship\nAn understanding of how personal and community attitudes about suicide affect someone’s openness to seek help and how that affects your ability to provide care\n\nClass Format \nThis two-day training is held in person and attendance for the full two days is mandatory to participate. DESCRIPTION:Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day\, interactive\, skills-based workshop for anyone 16 years of age or older who wants to feel more comfortable\, confident and competent in helping to prevent the immediate risk of suicide. ASIST is a resource for the whole community. It helps people apply suicide first-aid in many settings: with family\, friends\, co-workers\, teammates and formal caregiving roles. \nExperience powerful videos on suicide intervention. Feel challenged and safe. Learn suicide first aid. \nWhat you will learn \n\nHow to help someone thinking about suicide develop a personalized SafePlan to keep safe for now and connect with further help\nHow to apply a Safety Framework to guide the development of this SafePlan through a collaborative helping relationship\nAn understanding of how personal and community attitudes about suicide affect someone’s openness to seek help and how that affects your ability to provide care\n\nClass Format \nThis two-day training is held in person and attendance for the full two days is mandatory to participate.
