DESCRIPTION:What is Mental Health First Aid?\nMHFA is an interactive course that gives people the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy and helps the public identify\, understand and respond to signs of mental illness. Participants are introduced to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems\, gain and understanding of their impact and explore common interventions and treatments. \nWho should attend Mental Health First Aid:\nMHFA is intended for all people and organizations that make up the fabric of a community and can benefit anyone interested in learning more about mental health problems\, including depression\, anxiety\, psychosis and substance use. \nFormat:\nParticipants must complete 2 hours of pre-work using a computer with an internet connection prior to the live session. It helps people apply suicide first-aid in many settings: with family\, friends\, co-workers\, teammates and formal caregiving roles. \nExperience powerful videos on suicide intervention. Feel challenged and safe. Learn suicide first aid. \nWhat you will learn \n\nHow to help someone thinking about suicide develop a personalized SafePlan to keep safe for now and connect with further help\nHow to apply a Safety Framework to guide the development of this SafePlan through a collaborative helping relationship\nAn understanding of how personal and community attitudes about suicide affect someone’s openness to seek help and how that affects your ability to provide care\n\nClass Format \nThis two-day training is held in person and attendance for the full two days is mandatory to participate. DESCRIPTION:Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents\, family members\, caregivers\, teachers\, school staff\, peers\, neighbors\, health and human services workers\, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. \nWhy Youth Mental Health First Aid?\nYouth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify\, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. This training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. \nWho Should Take it: \n\nTeachers\nSchool staff\nCoaches\nCamp counselors\nYouth group leaders\nParents\nPeople who work with youth\n\nWhat it Covers: \n\nCommon signs and symptoms of mental illness in this age group\, including Anxiety\nDepression\nEating disorders\nAttention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)\nCommon signs and symptoms of substance use\nHow to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis\nHow to connect the person with help\nExpanded content on trauma\, addiction and self-care and the impact of social media and bullying\n\nFormat:\nParticipants must complete 2 hours of pre-work using a computer with an internet connection prior to the live session. DESCRIPTION:Johnson County is hosting Adult Mental Health First Aid- virtual training\, scholarships are available. \nWhat is Mental Health First Aid?\nMHFA is an interactive course that gives people the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The evidence behind the program demonstrates that it builds mental health literacy and helps the public identify\, understand and respond to signs of mental illness. Participants are introduced to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems\, gain and understanding of their impact and explore common interventions and treatments. \nWho should attend Mental Health First Aid:\nMHFA is intended for all people and organizations that make up the fabric of a community and can benefit anyone interested in learning more about mental health problems\, including depression\, anxiety\, psychosis and substance use. \nFormat:\nParticipants must complete 2 hours of pre-work using a computer with an internet connection prior to the live session.
